NASA Could Force SpaceX To Fly A Toyota To The Moon
NASA’s delayed return to the moon could see SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company, deliver a new lunar rover. However, this vehicle may not be a Tesla, but a rover developed by Toyota.
Delays Shift Focus to Private Companies
NASA’s Artemis program has faced delays and budget overruns. As a result, the space agency is now turning to private companies for help. SpaceX, with its extensive spaceflight experience, may play a key role in transporting cargo to the moon, including a new lunar rover.
Toyota’s Lunar Cruiser
SpaceX may deliver the Lunar Cruiser, a pressurized rover developed by Toyota in partnership with Japan’s JAXA. The rover, which has been in development since 2019, is modeled after Toyota’s Land Cruiser. While NASA has not confirmed specifics, it seems likely that SpaceX will transport the Lunar Cruiser to the moon.
What the Lunar Cruiser Will Be Like
The Lunar Cruiser will measure 19 feet long and 16 feet wide, roughly the size of two minibuses placed side by side. Inside, the rover will offer 459 cubic feet of pressurized space, allowing room for two astronauts and their gear for moon exploration.
SpaceX’s Role
SpaceX will likely handle the Lunar Cruiser’s delivery to the moon. Meanwhile, the company is also working on its own lunar vehicle, called Eagle. However, given Toyota’s progress, the Lunar Cruiser will likely land on the moon first.
Future Outlook
NASA’s collaboration with private companies like SpaceX marks a new chapter in space exploration. If plans stay on track, we may soon see Toyota’s Lunar Cruiser driving on the moon, thanks to SpaceX’s delivery.
